Our tea towels are made from 100% Irish linen, woven especially for us by Thomas Ferguson, who are synonymous with high quality linen and widely acknowledged as the finest linen Jacquard weavers in the world. The fabric design is based on an interlocking pattern of our logo, which is itself based on the road sign leading to Berdoulat - hence the pattern name "Home".

They are woven at a lower "pick rate" (density) compared to our Home fabric available on the roll, making for a really good absorbancy.

Why linen?

Linen breathes, just like skin, and it can absorb up to 20% of its own weight in moisture while still feeling dry to the touch. Not only is it kind to the skin (it cannot provoke allergies, is anti-static and can even help soften and keep the skin at its natural pH balance), it absorbs water better than most fabrics and does not "lint" making it excellent for drying dishes, and glassware.

Linen is one of the strongest natural fibres known to man, indeed it actually increases by about 20% in strength on wetting, giving it greater longevity than, for example, cotton. The sails of the clipper ships, such as the Cutty Sark, were made from flax linen!

It is also a truly natural and sustainable product which starts by growing in a field,  is completely biodegradable and results in little or no waste during production.
